The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a middle-aged man, identified as Yunusa, over allegations of blasphemy in Ningi Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Ahmed Wakil detailed the incident that occurred in Nasaru Village on June 19, 2024. According to Wakil, the unfortunate event stemmed from tensions surrounding a new religious movement called the Fera Movement, which Yunusa, also known as Usman, was promoting.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, strongly condemned the actions leading to Yunusa’s death, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the rule of law. He reassured residents that the police are committed to enhancing surveillance and patrols to ensure their safety and security.
“The public must cooperate with law enforcement agencies and refrain from taking the law into their own hands,” Wakil stated. “We urge the community to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear of intimidation, as normalcy has been restored in the affected area.”
The Bauchi State Police Command pledged to keep the public informed about the progress of the investigation. They also called on parents, guardians, community leaders, and other authoritative figures to be vigilant and intervene to prevent similar incidents in the future.
