Two brothers lost their lives in a boat accident at Kippo village in the Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State. The tragedy was announced by Mallam Habibu Wushishi, Director of Media and Strategy at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in Niger State, through a statement released on Sunday in Minna.
According to Wushishi, the mishap took place at around 10:00 pm on Thursday, June 20, while the brothers were fishing on the River Niger. The boat capsized due to a severe storm accompanied by heavy rain. Wushishi noted that the body of one brother has been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to locate the other.
In a separate incident on the same day, bandits attacked the villages of Lanta, Tunga, Dnakau, and Juweedna in the Erena area of Shiroro Local Government Area. The assault, which began at approximately 5:30 pm, involved the theft of numerous cattle and sheep, and resulted in significant destruction of property. The attacks left over 600 people homeless, who are now sheltering at Internally Displaced Persons camps in Erena and Kuta.
