Chidinma Modupe Okafor, a talented Nigerian, has officially been recognized by the Guinness World Records (GWR) for achieving the longest crocheting marathon. Chidinma crocheted a stunning white dinner gown continuously for an impressive 72 hours, surpassing the previous record of 34 hours and 7 minutes set by Alessandra Hayden of the United States in 2021.
To accomplish this remarkable feat, Chidinma crocheted non-stop, swiftly transitioning from one ball of yarn to the next, showcasing her extraordinary dedication and stamina.
In discussing her achievement, Chidinma shared her motivation to highlight the skill and endurance involved in crocheting. “I aim to showcase the artistry and perseverance involved in this craft and promote awareness about crocheting and its benefits,” she said.
Chidinma also detailed her preparation for the marathon, which included rigorous training and mental conditioning. “My preparation for the record attempt involved rigorous training and mental conditioning. It also required physical endurance and strategizing to maintain a consistent pace while minimizing fatigue,” she explained. She emphasized the importance of logistics, such as ensuring a sufficient supply of yarn and having support staff to facilitate an uninterrupted attempt.
Chidinma joins the ranks of other Nigerian record-breakers such as Hilda Baci with her famous cook-a-thon, Helen Williams (longest and widest wig), Ewa Cole (longest marathon singing Christmas songs), Clara Chizoba Kronborg (longest interviewing marathon), and Tonye Solomon (most steps climbed on a ladder while balancing a football on the head).
