ESPN has unveiled its list of the top 100 athletes of the 21st century, revealing the highest-ranked footballers among them.

Leading the pack is Argentina and Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi, who is placed third overall. The former Barcelona forward is the highest-ranked footballer on the list, trailing only swimmer Michael Phelps, who holds the top spot.

Messi’s long-time rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, is the next footballer on the list, ranked 13th. Despite his immense popularity and achievements, the Portugal international does not make the top 10.
