Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading socio-cultural organization for the Igbo people, is mourning the loss of its President-General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who passed away on Thursday in Abuja. Iwuanyanwu, who was 82, is remembered for his visionary leadership and transformative impact on the organization.
Announcing the news, Ohanaeze’s National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, conveyed the deep sorrow felt across the Igbo community. Iwuanyanwu, affectionately known as Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo, assumed the role of President-General on April 30, 2023. He was the ninth leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo since its founding in 1976.
Under Iwuanyanwu’s leadership, Ohanaeze Ndigbo saw a shift towards a more strategic and visionary approach, setting him apart from his predecessors. His tenure was marked by efforts to elevate the organization’s influence and address contemporary Nigerian issues with a forward-thinking perspective.
