Anticipating potential unrest linked to an upcoming nationwide protest, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has announced the deployment of enhanced security measures throughout the state. This move aims to maintain peace and protect residents amidst rising tensions due to a recent order by self-proclaimed Biafra leader Simon Ekpa, calling for a five-day sit-at-home protest across the South East from July 29 to August 2.

Commissioner Danjuma reassured the public of their continued safety, emphasizing that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are prepared to resist any attempts to disrupt the existing peace in Imo. Speaking with journalists on Sunday, Danjuma reaffirmed the commitment of his command to safeguarding lives and property throughout this period and beyond.

“Water-tight security has been deployed across the state to prevent any breakdown of law and order,” Danjuma stated. “We encourage residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harm or molestation.”

Addressing the planned nationwide protest, Danjuma acknowledged the citizens’ right to peaceful protest but stressed the importance of complying with security guidelines. He urged protesters to remain non-violent and peaceful, highlighting that any form of violence would not be tolerated.

“I urge parents and community leaders to educate their children and wards about the consequences of engaging in violent demonstrations,” Danjuma added. “The security and overall development of our state and nation are a collective responsibility.”

The Commissioner issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers, stating that any individuals or groups intending to exploit the protest for criminal activities should stay away from Imo State. “Harming innocent citizens, destruction, or looting of public and private property will not be condoned. Anyone caught engaging in such acts will face severe legal consequences,” he warned.

As the sit-at-home order looms, the Imo State Police Command remains vigilant, ensuring that peace and security are maintained across the state. Residents are encouraged to stay calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to uphold the stability and safety of their communities.
