Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has praised her team’s performance despite their 1-0 loss to Spain in the Group C clash at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Nantes. Oshoala acknowledged the team’s strong showing but emphasized the need for improvement in finishing.
Spain’s Alexia Putellas scored a decisive late free kick to secure victory in a tightly contested match. Despite creating several chances, including missed opportunities by Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Chiwendu Ihezuo, the Super Falcons struggled to convert their chances into goals.
Reflecting on the game, Oshoala expressed pride in the team’s performance but stressed the importance of becoming more clinical in front of goal. “We had our moments and played well against the reigning world champions,” she said. “However, we must focus on improving our finishing. If we can convert our chances, we have the potential to compete with any team globally.”
Oshoala’s comments follow a similar issue in their opening match against Brazil, where the Super Falcons also suffered a 1-0 defeat. The team will need to address these finishing issues as they look to rebound in their remaining fixtures.
