As the #EndBadGovernance protests move into their second day, tensions are rising across Nigeria. In Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, police clashed with demonstrators, using tear gas to disperse crowds at Berger Bridge. The protesters, chanting “Hunger dey oo, hunger dey ooo” to highlight their economic struggles, faced aggressive tactics from the police.

In Lagos, the situation grew increasingly dangerous as armed thugs threatened protesters and journalists with violence. Despite the threatening atmosphere, police presence did little to deter the thugs, who were reportedly making disturbing threats of beheading.

The scene in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was marked by gatherings at the Federal Secretariat, where protesters continued their demonstration, demanding better governance and accountability.

Zokira Ibeh, an activist present at the Ojota protest site, described a peaceful gathering that was later disrupted by a group of about 20 thugs. The thugs’ actions heightened tensions, and Ibeh criticized the police for failing to protect the protesters.

Meanwhile, in Ibadan, Oyo State, the city experienced relative calm, with businesses operating normally and no significant disruptions reported.
