Human remains found inside a crocodile in north-eastern Australia have been confirmed as those of a 40-year-old man from New South Wales who went missing on Saturday. The man was believed to have been attacked by the crocodile near the Annan River Bridge in Far North Queensland.
Queensland police confirmed the discovery on Tuesday, stating, “A formal identification process is underway; however, it is believed that the remains are those of the missing 40-year-old New South Wales man.” Further testing will be conducted to establish a positive identification.
The missing man was last seen at a popular fishing spot with his wife and children. Following his disappearance, a large crocodile, nearly five meters in length, was spotted around four kilometers from the site. The reptile, which had distinctive markings on its snout, was euthanized on Monday, as confirmed by a spokesman for the Queensland Department of Environment, Science, and Innovation.
Authorities are investigating reports that people had been feeding crocodiles near the area where the incident occurred. The search and rescue operation for the missing man has been suspended, pending further investigation​​.
