Two individuals narrowly escaped death when a commercial bus collided with a slow-moving truck in the early hours of Tuesday at Ojota, Maryland, Lagos. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 4:45 a.m., attributing it to high speed and loss of control by the bus driver.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, detailed the accident, stating that the agency’s Tiger Response Team from the command and control center in Alausa, Ikeja, conducted the rescue operation. “Upon arrival at the incident scene, it was observed that a commercial bus, registration number APP 209XZ, had rammed into an articulated vehicle with registration number T4845LA,” he reported.
The two victims, who were trapped inside the bus, sustained various degrees of injuries and were promptly rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Preliminary investigations revealed that the high speed of the commercial bus led to the crash as it rammed into the truck from behind.
The incident, which caused significant gridlock along the highway, was swiftly managed and cleared, allowing the road to reopen for vehicular activities before the morning rush hour. Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu advised motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and drive safely to prevent such accidents that could result in loss of lives and property.
