Tragedy struck in Maiduguri as a former Chief Registrar of the Borno State Cooperatives Society, Mallam Garba Abubakar, along with his wife and two female relatives, lost their lives in a devastating fire incident early yesterday morning. The fire, which engulfed their residence on Damboa Road, is suspected to have been caused by a power surge from the public electricity supply.
According to sources, the fire broke out in the early hours, trapping the family members inside. Despite efforts to save them, the blaze claimed the lives of Mallam Abubakar, fondly known as Gabson, his wife, and two other female family members. The tragic incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.
A close associate of the deceased, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared a poignant reflection: “Mallam Garba had retired as Chief Registrar of Cooperative Societies with the Borno State Government and later worked with a private borehole drilling company. We spoke extensively not long ago, and I promised to visit him in his new house. I never imagined that would be our last conversation.”
The tragic fire serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by electrical faults and the importance of safety measures in preventing such incidents.
