A 45-year-old man, Aramide Tito, faced a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday for allegedly subjecting his 11-year-old stepson to severe abuse, including starvation and scalding with hot water. The incident occurred on August 17 at approximately 11:00 p.m. in the Oke Ogbe Area, Atura, Badagry, Lagos.

According to the prosecution led by ASP Clément Okuoimose, Tito allegedly deprived the young boy of food for three consecutive days before dousing him with hot water while he slept. The boy suffered significant injuries as a result. The prosecutor further revealed that the defendant’s actions were part of a deliberate attempt to murder the child.

These actions contravene Sections 135, 245, and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, which address indecent treatment, assault, and attempted murder, respectively.

Despite the severity of the charges, Chief Magistrate A.J. Aina granted the defendant bail, setting the amount at N100,000 with two sureties of like sum. The court stipulated that the sureties must be gainfully employed.

The case has been adjourned to September 25 for further hearing.
