Evangelist Chukwuebuka Obi, the spiritual director of Zion Church Ministries Worldwide, has commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for the security situation in Imo State, declaring it safe and secure following a successful three-day evangelism event in Amala, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area. Obi, who addressed the congregation at Government House Owerri during a thank-you visit to the governor, praised the administration’s efforts in safeguarding lives and property.

“I have come to appreciate you, Your Excellency. People were eager to see you at the crusade to thank you. The white visitors were confident and happy about the security situation. Everyone felt secure and at home. I therefore want to tell you that Imo is safe and secure,” Evangelist Obi stated.

The evangelist highlighted that over three million people attended the event, which he described as the largest of its kind in the South East, with no incidents related to insecurity reported. His remarks, however, have sparked mixed reactions from attendees and residents.

Okechukwu Nnaji, who attended the crusade, expressed skepticism, arguing that the evangelist did not fully capture the realities of the security challenges in Imo State and the broader South East region. “Ebuka Obi did not tell the governor the real facts on ground in Imo State. Is he not aware that both foreign and local investors are hesitant to invest in Imo due to security challenges?” Nnaji questioned.

Echoing similar sentiments, Ikechi Nkwoji, another attendee, pointed out that while the crusade was not disrupted by thugs, some participants were reportedly attacked on their way home. He added, “If Imo is truly safe and secure, why has Owerri’s nightlife, once vibrant, declined so sharply?”

Governor Uzodinma, in his response, welcomed the evangelist’s visit and expressed optimism that such events would bolster Imo’s image as a safe destination. “The programme at Ngor Okpala has further showcased the state to the whole world that Imo is safe and secure,” the governor said, emphasizing the economic and tourism benefits of such large gatherings.

Uzodinma also reassured Evangelist Obi of his administration’s support, urging him to remain steadfast in his calling despite any challenges. “I can assure you and your team that I will talk to everyone in Imo State to understand that we need the presence of Ebuka Obi and his ministry. Imo needs the ministry in the state, and we will get the people to support you,” the governor affirmed.
