Afam Osigwe (SAN), the newly inaugurated President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has pledged to hold both federal and state governments accountable, emphasizing the association’s role in advocating for justice, equity, and good governance. Osigwe, who took over leadership from Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) during a ceremony at the Lagos Continental Hotel on Thursday, outlined his ambitious vision for the NBA in his inaugural address titled “Our Mandate.”

Osigwe, the 32nd President of the NBA, did not mince words about the challenges ahead. “As legal practitioners, we are uniquely positioned to effect positive change in our society. We must ensure that the law serves every Nigerian, regardless of their background or status,” he stated. Osigwe’s tenure will focus on aligning government policies with the aspirations of the Nigerian people, promoting transparency, and reducing the cost of governance.

Under his leadership, the NBA will prioritize advocacy on critical issues such as security, fundamental rights, employment, and access to basic amenities like food, shelter, education, and healthcare. “The NBA will not be a silent observer. We will actively engage with all tiers of government and stakeholders, presenting proposals and blueprints to address the issues that matter most to Nigerians,” Osigwe asserted.
