The Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF), a coalition representing nearly 50 youth groups from the 19 northern states and the FCT, has called for the immediate dismissal and arrest of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike. The group labeled Wike’s recent statements as a severe threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
This demand follows Wike’s public declaration on August 31, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he threatened to instigate unrest in states controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His remarks have sparked concern among various stakeholders, with the NYLF describing them as “dangerous” and an invitation to anarchy.
In a statement titled “ARREST NYESOM WIKE NOW,” the Northern Youth expressed disappointment over the silence from the federal government and security agencies. They believe Wike’s utterances, if unchecked, could jeopardize the nation’s unity and democratic progress.
“The Northern Youth are alarmed by the provocative and irresponsible statements made by Barr. Wike, which call for disorder and chaos. We demand the federal government and security agencies take swift action, or we will believe they are complicit in Wike’s threats,” the statement read.
The NYLF further insisted that Wike should be removed from his ministerial role and that the PDP should suspend him indefinitely. They expressed their full support for the PDP Governors Forum led by Senator Bala Mohammed and vowed to back their stance on the matter.
