The Imo State Government has firmly denied recent reports alleging that it is imposing fines on residents using solar panels or generators. Declan Emelumba, the State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, criticized the misleading reports as baseless and aimed at damaging the government’s reputation.

Emelumba clarified that the state has no policy imposing fines for the use of alternative energy sources like solar panels or generators. He stated that the erroneous claims likely stemmed from a mix-up with another state’s policy and noted that the news reports failed to provide credible sources or official statements from the Imo State Government.

The Commissioner emphasized that the state is focused on environmental safety and improving energy infrastructure. “We are committed to providing reliable 24/7 power supply and have no intention of penalizing individuals for using solar panels or generators,” Emelumba said.

He urged residents to disregard the false reports and assured them that the state is actively working to enhance power supply across Imo State. Emelumba further explained that recent news about a fine imposed on a local bakery for environmental infractions was unrelated to the alleged energy policy and had no connection to solar or generator use.
