Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the federal government to take decisive action against the growing trend of “fake miracles” in churches. In a passionate Instagram post on Wednesday, Ogbonna condemned the use of God’s name for falsehood, calling it a betrayal of the gospel and a manipulation of vulnerable people for selfish gain.

Ogbonna’s call for accountability follows the recent controversy surrounding bizarre testimonies from members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries. In one viral video, an elderly woman claimed to have disarmed four armed robbers after declaring, “I’m a chosen.” Another man testified that a lion miraculously saved him from kidnappers by carrying him into the air. These testimonies have sparked widespread debates online.

“It is heartbreaking to see pastors faking miracles to deceive and exploit vulnerable people. These acts stain the true essence of Christianity, turning faith into a spectacle for selfish gain,” Ogbonna said. He stressed that such actions damage the trust people have in religion, warning that they lead to lost lives and manipulated faith.

The actor urged Christians to be cautious of social media trends that mock or exploit their faith. He also called on CAN and the government to introduce regulations that hold those responsible for fake miracles accountable. “Christianity is not fraud, manipulation, or mockery. Let’s stand to protect the integrity of our faith!” he added.

Ogbonna’s comments have reignited conversations around the responsibility of religious leaders in upholding the values of Christianity and ensuring that faith is not used as a tool for personal or financial gain.
