The Imo State Police Command has taken swift action following a viral video showing four officers involved in a violent confrontation while attempting to arrest a man, sparking widespread outrage on social media. The incident occurred on September 16, 2024, in Ovoro-Uzomiri Umuosu, Naze, Owerri North Local Government Area, during an arrest operation for 32-year-old Prince Amaechi in connection with drug trafficking allegations.

The video, which gained traction online, shows the officers forcefully pinning the suspect to the ground while he carried a child. His wife, who was recording the event, could be heard calling for help. The officers involved were identified as Sergeant Patrick Nwangbo, Corporal Godswill Okechukwu, Corporal Justice Nnorom, and Corporal Goodluck Iwuagwu, all members of the Anti-Narcotics Unit.

Speaking on the matter, the spokesperson for the command, Henry Okoye, confirmed that the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the IGP X-Squad for a comprehensive investigation. The officers involved have also been apprehended for questioning and will face an orderly room trial pending the outcome of the investigation.

“The actions of the officers were unprofessional, and the situation could have been handled with more discretion and professionalism,” Okoye said. He further emphasized the command’s commitment to transparency and maintaining law and order, urging the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading misinformation while the investigation is ongoing.
