The House of Representatives has called on Aliko Dangote, owner of Dangote Refinery, to publicly disclose the price at which he sells petroleum products to NNPC Limited and major marketers. This follows rising tensions over the cost per litre of petrol, with NNPC claiming it purchases petrol at ₦898 per litre from the refinery. Dangote Refinery, however, has disputed this figure, stating the price is lower.

During Thursday’s plenary session, the motion was moved by Hon. Oboku Oforji, urging Dangote Refinery to provide clarity on pricing. The lawmakers also requested NNPC to reveal the amount it pays for crude oil sourced from the refinery. This move comes as part of efforts to foster transparency in the pricing of petroleum products in the country.

In addition to price transparency, the lawmakers proposed that Dangote Refinery establish tank farms or depots across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones to improve product distribution. This, they believe, will ease the distribution challenges and contribute to the country’s goal of energy self-sufficiency.

Speaking in support of the motion, Oforji highlighted the positive impact of Dangote Refinery on Nigeria’s energy sovereignty and its contribution to reducing foreign exchange pressures. He recommended that the refinery explore direct sales to independent marketers to ensure a sustainable energy market.

The motion was unanimously adopted by the House, signaling widespread support for greater accountability and transparency in the petroleum sector.
