Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has filed a lawsuit against internet activist and critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM), over an audio recording that alleged the social media personality bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million. The audio clip also implicated some officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), claiming they allowed Bobrisky to serve his six-month jail term outside the prison.
In response, Bobrisky has disowned the viral audio, asserting that the voice recording was artificially generated using AI technology. The cross-dresser insists that he had no involvement in any bribery or misconduct related to the case.
Bobrisky’s legal team has issued a letter demanding that VeryDarkMan remove the audio from all platforms immediately, issue a public apology in two national newspapers, and share a video apology across social media. The lawsuit also seeks ₦1 billion in damages for the alleged defamation of Bobrisky’s character, with a 24-hour deadline for compliance.
Part of the letter from Bobrisky’s legal team reads, “We demand, on behalf of our client, a written apology published in two national daily newspapers, a video recording of your apology shared on all your social media platforms, and the payment of ₦1,000,000,000 in damages within 24 hours.”
This legal battle has intensified the ongoing controversy surrounding Bobrisky, as the cross-dresser aims to clear his name amidst the damaging allegations circulating online.
