Nollywood actor-turned-preacher Yul Edochie has voiced concerns about how Nigerians are more familiar with biblical figures like Moses, Isaac, and Jacob while being largely ignorant of their own ancestral heritage. In a recent post on his Facebook page, Edochie criticized the nation’s over-reliance on biblical narratives, urging Nigerians to reconnect with their cultural roots and rediscover the history of their own ancestors.
Edochie, who launched his church, True Salvation Ministry (TSM), in January 2024, emphasized that understanding one’s cultural history is key to personal and collective growth. “We have been brainwashed to know everything about Moses, Isaac, and the people of Israel, yet we know nothing about our own ancestors and their contributions,” he wrote.
He further argued that without knowing where they come from, Nigerians will struggle to chart a path forward. Edochie’s message has sparked discussions on the need for a balance between religious beliefs and cultural heritage in Nigeria.
