Supporters of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), staged a large protest in Port Harcourt, urging the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to halt the ongoing local government elections. The protesters called on RSIEC to comply with a recent Federal High Court ruling that reportedly suspended the elections.

Carrying placards with messages such as “Obey Court Order” and “No Justice, No Election,” the demonstrators expressed anger over alleged irregularities in the election process. Wike’s camp accused RSIEC of disregarding the court’s decision, which they claim ordered a suspension of the elections due to legal disputes. Despite the ruling, RSIEC proceeded with the polls, leading to the widespread protests by Wike’s loyalists, who are now calling for an immediate postponement.
