The Catholic Church has expressed support for Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) following his recent apology over previous remarks linking tithing to salvation. Pastor Adeboye had earlier stated that paying tithe was necessary for making it to heaven, but he has since recanted, acknowledging the mistake and clarifying that holiness and peace with others are the true pathways to heaven.

Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, Director of Social Communications for the Lagos Catholic Archdiocese, praised Adeboye for his honesty and highlighted that the Catholic Church has never preached money as a requirement for entering heaven. Instead, the focus is on doing the will of God and following Jesus Christ’s teachings.

In his statement, Godonu said, “Pastor Adeboye has found the truth, and the truth has liberated him. The Catholic Church teaches that salvation comes from following Christ, not from financial contributions. I commend him for his courage in correcting his earlier teaching and shedding light on the truth.”
