Imo State teachers expressed deep disappointment and frustration on Saturday, October 5, 2024, as their hopes of celebrating World Teachers’ Day at Heroes Square were dashed. The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Imo State wing was denied access to the facility after being unable to pay the required fee.

Teachers and principals, unaware of the situation, arrived at Heroes Square, only to find the venue closed to them. Sources revealed that the NUT leadership had made several efforts to secure the venue, but when those attempts failed, they resorted to holding the event at the Teachers House along Owerri-Port Harcourt Road.
