The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths Worldwide have expressed strong disapproval over the recent destruction of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centre in Nsu, Ehime Mbano Council Area of Imo State, which also serves as a CBT centre for JAMB examinations. The Igbo youth wing, led by Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, decried the act as a monumental loss caused by misinformation and disinformation between citizens and leaders.
After assessing the damage, Okpalaezeukwu confirmed that the state government had no plans to use any part of Imo as a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs), dispelling earlier rumors that fueled the attack. He described the destruction of the structures, vehicles, and facilities as an unnecessary setback and a waste of resources meant for the benefit of the community.
“I believe that this destruction, carried out by unidentified hoodlums, was a result of poor communication. I appeal to our youths to remain calm, peaceful, and refrain from violence, as these facilities were installed for their own good,” Okpalaezeukwu stated.
He also commended Governor Hope Uzodimma and security agencies for their efforts in protecting lives and property, calling on the aggrieved youths to seek peaceful resolution and prioritize the development of the state.
Echoing these sentiments, Hon. Eric Uwakwe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Affairs, labeled the destruction as unfortunate and urged the community to avoid confrontations and embrace peace for the progress of the area.
