The newly appointed Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lagos, Kehinde Hamzat, has urged both FRSC officers and the public to prioritize discipline and adhere to traffic regulations. Speaking after taking over the command’s parade on Monday, Hamzat emphasized the importance of aligning with the Corps Marshal’s policy, which focuses on enhancing operational efficiency nationwide.
Hamzat highlighted the role of technology in improving road safety, urging motorists to utilize the FRSC app to verify their driver’s licenses and report any infractions. He also stressed the importance of maintaining discipline within the corps and among road users as part of a broader strategy to reduce road accidents and fatalities, especially with the festive season approaching.
The commander pledged to foster collaboration with other security agencies such as the police, army, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), noting that inter-agency cooperation is crucial for ensuring safety on the roads.
“We will work with state traffic agencies and conduct town hall meetings to educate the public on road safety,” Hamzat said. He also reminded motorists of the dangers of reckless driving, urging them to drive responsibly for the sake of their families and society at large.
Hamzat made it clear that the FRSC would enforce traffic laws using a balanced approach, combining strict penalties with rewards where appropriate.
In his address to FRSC officers, he called on them to remain vigilant and dedicated, stressing that achieving zero fatalities from road crashes is a primary goal for the command.
