A deadly gunfight between Nigerian soldiers and unidentified gunmen in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State has allegedly resulted in several casualties. The clash occurred at the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano on Monday night, according to local sources.

Witnesses claimed that the non-state actors launched an attack, killing some soldiers, which led to a prolonged exchange of gunfire. The conflict has spread fear and panic across nearby communities, forcing residents to flee their homes as soldiers reportedly took control of the area.

“The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears. We are terrified and don’t know what will happen next,” said a frightened resident who spoke anonymously.

This violent confrontation comes just days after the residence of former Senator Frank Ibezim and the National Open University centre in Ezeoke Nsu, both in the same LGA, were set on fire, further escalating tensions in the region.

The Nigerian Army and the Police are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
