Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has defended her husband, President Bola Tinubu, against criticisms surrounding the country’s current economic challenges. Speaking during a visit to the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oluremi clarified that the ongoing hardship, largely driven by the removal of fuel subsidies, should not be attributed to the Tinubu administration. She emphasized that they are only 18 months into office and are working to stabilize the economy and ensure a brighter future for Nigeria.
She further stated that Nigeria is “a land flowing with milk and honey,” but hard work is essential to realizing its full potential. “There is no food for the lazy man,” she remarked, urging Nigerians, especially the youth, to remain patient and hardworking as the government works to address the economic issues. The First Lady also reassured the public of her husband’s integrity, affirming that they will not disappoint the nation and are committed to long-term progress.
The removal of the fuel subsidy, which saw petrol prices jump from N198 to over N1,000 per liter, has been a key point of controversy, but Mrs. Tinubu expressed optimism that with sustained efforts, the country will thrive in the coming years.
