The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to step in and resolve the growing political tensions between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. INC President Prof. Benjamin Okaba, during a press briefing in Abuja, warned that the escalating power struggle between the two leaders could lead to wider instability across Nigeria if left unchecked. Okaba expressed concerns that Wike’s influence and recent political actions, including ongoing legal battles and defections within the Rivers State Assembly, are fueling the crisis.

Despite Governor Fubara’s adherence to President Tinubu’s October 2023 peace directive, Wike has continued his aggressive stance, raising fears of a potential ripple effect beyond Rivers. Okaba appealed for Wike to be called to order, emphasizing that peace in the state is critical to national stability.
