Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has condemned the Libyan Football Federation for intentionally subjecting the Super Eagles to harsh treatment during their trip to Libya for the 2025 AFCON qualifier. Nigerian players and officials were stranded for hours at a Libyan airport, denied food, water, and internet access, until diplomatic efforts intervened.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, Senator Enoh dismissed claims by the Libyan side that their players were treated poorly in Nigeria, calling the ordeal in Libya a deliberate act to create “make-believe” scenarios. He also questioned the role of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), criticizing their lack of immediate intervention during the crisis, noting that the NFF President was unable to maintain communication with CAF Secretary General during the 13-hour ordeal.

The Libyan Football Federation has denied any wrongdoing, claiming their values would not permit such acts, while CAF has referred the matter to its disciplinary board for investigation.
