Activist Aisha Yesufu has openly criticized the lack of impact from the absences of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, suggesting that their presence or absence goes unnoticed in the governance of Nigeria.
This statement came in response to official remarks by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, who assured the public that government operations continue smoothly despite both leaders being abroad. Tinubu is on a two-week leave in Europe, while Shettima attends to official duties in Sweden.
Yesufu’s comments on social media platform X questioned the effectiveness of the current leadership by stating, “There cannot be a vacuum in something that was never there. Nobody feels the absence of seat warmers.” These remarks highlight ongoing debates about leadership visibility and impact in Nigeria, emphasizing concerns over governance continuity in the absence of its top officials.
