Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, the Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), was reportedly abducted on Sunday along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road in Enugu State. This kidnapping is part of a recent wave of abductions on the road, with residents and travelers expressing deep concerns over safety.

Social media influencer Chijinkem Ugwuanyi shared the news on Facebook, asking for prayers for Prof. Ujam’s safe return. An anonymous lecturer also confirmed that the incident was discussed on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNN chapter’s WhatsApp platform. “Prof. Oguejiofor Ujam, the Dean of GS, was kidnapped along the Opi-Enugu Road. Please, we need urgent help,” read a post on the ASUU platform.

Despite multiple police and military checkpoints on the Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka Road, reports indicate a sharp rise in abductions over the past week, with several travelers reportedly taken hostage daily. The Enugu State Police Command, through DSP Daniel Ndukwe, has yet to issue an official statement on the recent events.
