Veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, has opened up about the lack of support from her home state, Abia, during her critical health crisis, despite her longstanding contributions to Nigerian entertainment. Reflecting on the experience, Nwosu shared that she faced her health battle alone, with no aid from the government of her native Abia State, even though she was battling a serious kidney-related illness in 2012. She credits her recovery to support from the Lagos State government and the recognition she had earned from her acting career.

In an interview with Nollywood on Radio, Nwosu expressed disappointment in her state, stating that she would no longer offer her services to Abia State without adequate compensation. “Nothing my Abia State will call me for that I would go for free. They would pay through their nose for me to go,” she said, emphasizing that her commitment to her craft helped her gain the support she needed.

The actress recalled that the intervention that saved her life came through a fan who petitioned Lagos State authorities on her behalf, ultimately helping her access life-saving medical care.

Personal Commitment Moving Forward

Now 61, Nwosu is resolute about her stance, citing the lack of support from her home state as the reason she is unwilling to lend her services freely to Abia State. The award-winning actress has been celebrated for her roles in iconic Nigerian series and movies, and she remains a beloved figure in Nollywood.

This revelation has sparked discussions about the responsibilities of state governments in supporting their citizens, especially public figures who contribute significantly to culture and entertainment.
