Nigerian music star Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has responded sharply to fellow artist Flavour’s recent social media shade alleging imitation in musical style. Flavour had previously posted about someone imitating his signature sound, without naming names. However, Kcee took note and replied, defending his work and dismissing any notion of competition between the two.
Kcee emphasized that his music celebrates Igbo culture authentically and that no one has exclusive rights to the genre. “We are not on the same level. Pick your battles carefully,” Kcee wrote on his X handle. He further warned Flavour against gatekeeping Igbo cultural music, stressing that his artistry uplifts the Igbo heritage without needing to apologize.
“Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. I’ve been in this game before you,” he continued. “This genre belongs to everyone, and no one owns it. I’ll keep celebrating our heritage unapologetically.” Kcee ended his post by advising Flavour to focus on his own success rather than diminishing others, stating that authenticity resonates with listeners and that his commitment to Igbo culture remains strong.
The exchange has sparked discussions among fans, many of whom have expressed support for the artists’ contributions to the Igbo music scene, while others debate the growing rivalry in the genre.
