The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has achieved a significant milestone in restoring full electricity supply to Damaturu in Yobe State and Maiduguri in Borno State, following extensive repair work on the 330kV Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri transmission line. This marks a major step in stabilizing power for the Northern region, after weeks of disruption.
A statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, confirmed the successful restoration of power. “The Transmission Company of Nigeria has restored full power supply through the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line,” the statement read, highlighting the crucial timeline of events leading to the resumption.
The Gombe-Damaturu line was reconnected on Wednesday, October 30, at approximately 7:25 pm, while the section between Damaturu and Maiduguri (Molai) resumed operation by 2:01 pm on Thursday, October 31. The restoration followed the completion of repairs on the transmission infrastructure that was vandalized on September 22, 2024. Tower 372, the compromised structure, was successfully rebuilt, and line stringing was finalized on October 23 at around 12:48 pm.
The TCN faced delays in re-establishing supply due to the concurrent damage on the Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line, which initially prevented an immediate full restoration. However, with the latest advancements, power supply has been fully resumed, bringing relief to residents and businesses in the region.
The TCN emphasized the need for community cooperation to curb vandalism, which disrupts not only power supply but also economic growth. “TCN is again calling on the public to join in the fight against power installation vandalism to safeguard the future of electricity in Nigeria. Please report suspicious activities around transmission installations to security operatives or TCN offices nationwide,” the statement urged.
This call to action seeks to strengthen efforts in protecting Nigeria’s critical power infrastructure, ensuring consistent and reliable energy for all.
