The Anambra State Police Command has pledged to apprehend the assailants responsible for the recent attacks that left four vigilante operatives dead and two others seriously injured. Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam made this commitment on Monday, November 18, 2024, following the violent incidents in Ekeagu Abatete and Ukpo Junction, Dunukofia Local Government Area.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, armed men operating in unregistered Lexus 330 and Honda FJ Cruiser SUVs attacked Ekeagu Abatete, killing three vigilante members and injuring a bystander. Subsequently, at Ukpo Junction, the assailants, while evading a police pursuit, fatally shot another vigilante member, injured one more, and set two vehicles ablaze.

The police have recovered the bodies of the deceased, and the injured are receiving medical treatment. Expressing condolences to the victims’ families and communities, the Command assured that all efforts are being made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
