A joint security operation in Aku, Okigwe LGA of Imo State, has dislodged a notorious criminal hideout linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The operation, involving the police, military, DSS, and NSCDC, led to the arrest of over 20 suspects, the recovery of stolen vehicles, arms, explosives, and the discovery of shallow graves containing victims’ remains.
Key security officials, including Brigadier General U.A. Lawal of the 34 Artillery Brigade, State Police Commissioner Aboki Danjuma, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Brig. Gen. Joseph Ogbonna (Rtd.), visited the site, assessing progress and reaffirming their commitment to restoring peace in the area. Residents of Aku Community, who had fled due to the group’s activities, were encouraged to return as security forces maintain their presence.
Officials vowed that suspects would face the law after thorough investigations, while recovered items would be returned to rightful owners. Security agencies have declared the operation a major breakthrough in combating terrorism and stabilizing Imo State.
