President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has revealed that the Port Harcourt refinery is operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to increase production soon. Onanuga disclosed this on Wednesday following a fact-finding visit to the refinery alongside a team led by Managing Director Ibrahim Onoja.

Addressing rumors about the refinery’s inefficiency, Onanuga stated, “The refinery receives regular crude supplies, contrary to claims of shortages. Nigerians must disregard misinformation about its operations.”

The refinery, which processes 60,000 barrels of crude per day, is part of a larger complex with a combined capacity of 250,000 barrels. Onanuga commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for reviving the facility, which he described as a “dead asset” on the verge of becoming a museum piece.

In November, NNPCL announced the commencement of operations at 60% capacity, marking a significant milestone in efforts to boost local refining and reduce dependency on imported petroleum products.
