President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a significant salary increase for Nigeria’s armed forces, alongside the payment of three months’ salary arrears. This announcement was made on Friday by Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, through a statement by ministry spokesperson Henshaw Ogubike.

The approval also includes the release of funds to clear outstanding pensions and entitlements owed to retired military personnel, a move expected to alleviate long-standing financial burdens.

Military personnel have already started receiving alerts for the three-month salary arrears, which is seen as a morale booster for the armed forces. Minister Matawalle praised Tinubu’s dedication to supporting both active and retired military members, highlighting the government’s resolve to prioritize welfare amid Nigeria’s security challenges.
