Tension has gripped Anambra State following the disappearance of Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, the retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi. The Archbishop, accompanied by his driver, embarked on a journey to Umuchu on Friday morning but has not been heard from since.
A prayer alert issued by the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, urged for fervent prayers and divine intervention for the Archbishop’s safe return. The alert also confirmed that authorities have been notified, and efforts are underway to locate him.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, Toochukwu Ikenga, stated he was yet to receive details of the incident. This unsettling development comes amid increasing reports of insecurity and the activities of unknown gunmen in the state.
