Manchester United are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño for the transfer of 17-year-old left-back Diego León, as part of their strategy to strengthen manager Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the update via his X account on Wednesday, revealing that United are eyeing León as a talent for the future.
“Manchester United are in active talks with Cerro Porteño for 17-year-old left-back Diego León as talent for the future,” Romano tweeted. “A $4m deal is being discussed, similar to the Sekou Koné deal last summer, as United keep scouting young talents abroad.”
This potential acquisition underscores the Red Devils’ commitment to securing emerging talents to support long-term squad development under Amorim’s leadership.
The negotiations come ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League clash against Viktoria Plzeň on Thursday. Amorim’s side will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
