The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced plans for the home-based Super Eagles to undergo foreign camping as part of their preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). NFF President Ibrahim Gusau revealed this during a media briefing, emphasizing that the move is aimed at ensuring the team’s top performance in the tournament.
Scheduled to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, CHAN 2024 will take place from February 1 to February 28, 2025. Gusau assured that all necessary arrangements are being made to provide the team with world-class preparation.
“We deliberately want them to have a place where they can be fully camped and settled without any distractions. They will spend about two weeks there, after which we will arrange for a foreign camping venue where they can play quality friendly matches before moving to the venue of the tournament,” Gusau stated.
He further highlighted the federation’s commitment to ensuring the team receives adequate training and exposure through competitive friendlies to boost their readiness. The foreign camping plan is expected to eliminate distractions and provide a focused environment for the players.
The CHAN tournament, which exclusively features players competing in their domestic leagues, presents a significant opportunity for the home-based Super Eagles to showcase their talent on the continental stage. Nigeria has a rich history in the competition, and expectations are high for the team to deliver a stellar performance.
Fans and analysts have lauded the NFF’s proactive approach, noting that foreign camping could be a game-changer for the team’s preparation and overall performance.
