President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Nigerian military to intensify their efforts in combating insurgency by taking the battle directly to the camps of terrorists and bandits. His charge follows a deadly attack on a military base in Damboa, Borno State, on January 4, 2025, which claimed the lives of six soldiers.

Tinubu’s directive, conveyed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. He emphasized the need to prevent such tragic incidents in the future and to focus the military’s efforts in the Northwest, where bandits continue to wreak havoc on innocent communities.

Expressing his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, Tinubu honored their sacrifice and commended the military for their swift response. “I must commend the armed forces for their swift and decisive response, particularly the air component, in launching effective retaliatory strikes. The targeted air raids significantly neutralized numerous terrorists and destroyed their assets as they attempted to flee,” the President said.

Tinubu hailed the military’s retaliatory efforts as a testament to their readiness to confront threats to national security. “Their actions testify to our resolve to eradicate terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians,” he added.

The President reiterated the government’s unwavering support for the armed forces and called on them to sustain their momentum in dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across the country.

The attack in Damboa highlights the persistent security challenges in Nigeria’s Northeast and Northwest regions, but Tinubu’s call to action underscores his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability across the nation.
