Two drivers sustained severe injuries following a collision between a Mack truck and a Howo truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Danco filling station in Sagamu, Ogun State, early Thursday morning.
The accident, which occurred around 5:15 am, involved a Mack truck (registration number EKY781YA) carrying goods owned by Sprint Power and Energy, and a Howo truck (registration number FZE1290GOGFT2), loaded with goods belonging to Guangdong Free Trade Zone.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed that the Howo truck, driven by Hassan Yahaya, entered the expressway from the Zingfeng Company yard without adequate visibility, leading to the crash. The Mack truck, driven by Ademola, lost control and overturned across the highway, crushing the Howo truck in the process.
Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Iderra Private Hospital in Sagamu and another unidentified hospital for treatment.
“The scene was chaotic, with both vehicles severely damaged. The Divisional Police Officer deployed traffic officers to restore order, clear the obstruction, and transport the vehicles to the MTD office in Sagamu for safekeeping and Vehicle Inspection Officer evaluation,” Odutola stated.
This incident highlights the dangers of negligence on highways and the need for stricter adherence to traffic rules to prevent such accidents.
