A man identified as Sunday Omisakin, who was among those pardoned by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on December 24, 2024, is back behind bars after allegedly stealing a plasma television worth ₦600,000 just eight days after regaining his freedom. Omisakin, reportedly number eight on the governor’s pardon list, was arraigned at an Osogbo Chief Magistrates Court for the alleged burglary and theft in the Iludun area of the state capital on January 3.
Court documents reveal Omisakin was charged with breaking into the home of one Shittu Damilare around noon and carting away the TV. He faces multiple counts under the state’s criminal code, including burglary and property theft. A judge remanded him to the Ilesa Correctional Centre following his arraignment, effectively nullifying the short-lived clemency he had received.
The re-arrest has raised questions about how best to rehabilitate pardoned individuals, as some critics argue that stronger support systems are needed to keep ex-convicts from returning to a life of crime. In the meantime, Omisakin will remain in custody, pending further court proceedings.
