The Lagos State government has re-arraigned convicted kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before Justice Adenike Coker of the State High Court on an amended five-count charge. The charges include murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Evans, who has been serving life imprisonment since February 2022 for the kidnapping of Chief Donatus Dunu, the CEO of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd., was brought to court on Thursday, January 30, 2025. His absence the previous day had stalled a separate suit filed against him by another kidnap victim.
In September 2022, Evans received an additional 21-year sentence for kidnapping businessman Chief Sylvanus Ahamonu and extorting $420,000 in ransom. He is currently facing multiple cases of kidnapping and armed robbery.
State Prosecutor Y.A. Sule confirmed that Evans has applied for a plea bargain, which is under consideration by the appropriate authorities. Evans’ counsel has indicated his client’s willingness to serve as an ambassador against crime, aiming to deter others from engaging in criminal activities.
