Funke Akindele has revealed her humble beginnings in Nollywood, recounting how she had to borrow clothes from fellow actress Sikiratu Sindodo (Tayo Odueke) to look presentable on movie sets before her big break.

In a candid conversation with her longtime friend and actress, Eniola Badmus, Akindele shared the challenges she faced in her early career. The conversation, which took place during her vacation in Ghana alongside Badmus and content creator Kamo, was captured in a viral Snapchat video.

She recalled how difficult it was to land movie roles, revealing that many producers sidelined her despite her talent. “They didn’t give us roles. One of those men, I just keep looking at him, but I won’t mention his name,” she said.

Akindele also showered praise on fellow actress Iyabo Ojo, highlighting her kindness and support during those struggling years. “Iyabo Ojo was lucky and very nice to us. She would say, ‘Don’t worry,’ and drive us around in her small red car. She would stand up and fight for me,” Akindele revealed.

Her emotional reflection resonated with many fans, as it served as a testament to her journey from obscurity to becoming one of the biggest names in Nollywood.

Now a box-office queen and multiple award-winning filmmaker, Akindele has remained vocal about the importance of perseverance, hard work, and maintaining strong friendships in the entertainment industry.
