Former West Ham United and Southampton defender, Jose Fonte, has criticized Chelsea for missing out on signing Victor Osimhen, claiming the Nigerian striker could have been another Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were heavily linked with Osimhen throughout the January transfer window, but instead, the Super Eagles star ended up securing a season-long loan move to Galatasaray from Napoli.

“Chelsea are crying out for a striker like Victor Osimhen,” Fonte stated. “He could have been another Didier Drogba for them. He is a winner, has pace, power, technical ability, and he dominates defenders in duels.”

The veteran defender further revealed that Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray stunned him, stating:

“When I saw Victor Osimhen go to Galatasaray, I thought it was foolish that no Premier League club signed him. Once he gets into the EPL, he will bully defenders. He is aggressive, fast, clever, and powerful.”

Fonte, who faced Osimhen in the Champions League, also admitted that the Nigerian forward was a nightmare to defend against, even though he was playing with caution due to their friendship.

Osimhen’s Future in the EPL?
Despite his Napoli loan move, Osimhen remains a top target for English clubs, with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United reportedly keeping tabs on his situation.

With Drogba’s legendary status at Chelsea, fans have long hoped for a striker of similar dominance, and many believe Osimhen could still be that player in the near future.
