A newborn baby abandoned on a footpath in East London over a year ago is now thriving, a Family Court has revealed, describing her progress as “astonishing.”
Baby Elsa, as she was named by hospital staff, was found inside a shopping bag near the Greenway footpath on January 18, 2024, by a dog walker. She was discovered on the coldest night of the year, so cold that doctors couldn’t take her temperature for three hours.
Judge Carol Atkinson stated that Elsa is now meeting all her developmental milestones, taking her first steps, and receiving glowing reports from her social worker in foster care.

It was previously revealed that Baby Elsa is the third child abandoned by the same parents within seven years:

🔹 Roman – Found in a play area off Roman Road in January 2019.
🔹 Harry – Discovered wrapped in a white blanket on Balaam Street, Plaistow, in September 2017.
Both children have since been adopted and given new names, just as Elsa is expected to be. However, Elsa’s birth cannot yet be legally registered, as police continue their search for her parents.

The Metropolitan Police and National Crime Agency are working to trace Elsa’s parents. Detective Inspector Jamie Humm expressed serious concerns for the wellbeing of the mother, urging anyone with information to come forward.
“We have serious concerns for the parents, especially the mother. We urge anyone with even the smallest piece of information to contact us.”
A £20,000 reward has been offered by Crimestoppers for information leading to the identification of Elsa’s birth parents.
While Elsa continues to grow in a loving foster home, the mystery surrounding her past remains unsolved, leaving many questions unanswered.
