An 18-year-old girl, Rukayat Ashiru, has been arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on charges of conspiracy and theft after allegedly drugging her boyfriend and stealing N4 million in cash.

Ashiru, who appeared in court on Friday, February 28, 2025, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her by the police.

Prosecutor Olapeju Durodola informed the court that the alleged incident took place on November 30, 2024, at Mufu Lanihun, Yidi Agugu, Ibadan. According to the prosecution, Ashiru, alongside accomplices who are currently at large, laced her boyfriend’s drink with a substance that rendered him unconscious before making away with his money.

“The defendant, in collaboration with others now at large, allegedly drugged her boyfriend and stole N4 million from him,” Durodola told the court.

The case is being prosecuted under Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000, which address theft and criminal conspiracy.

Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted Ashiru bail in the sum of N2 million, requiring two sureties in like sum. The court adjourned the hearing until May 26, 2025.

The case has sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the growing trend of financial exploitation in relationships. As investigations continue, authorities are intensifying efforts to track down the other suspects involved.
